Biography
Between 1987-1989, Matt studied at the Welsh International Film School, directing and shooting various 16mm films. Post-graduation, he has worked with a diverse range of filmmakers on cinema and television productions, including directors: Robert Bierman; Dave McLean; Daniel Kleinman; Strath Hamilton; Ashley Rowe BSC (director of photography); Ted Churchill (USA - Steadicam operator); Ron Vidor (USA - Steadicam operator); Nick Dance (documentary cameraman/director of photography).
Over the last 13 years, Matt has filmed in most terrains and climates, from the jungles of Congo and Belize to the Tasmanian and Zimbabwean Bush. He has worked on 35mm & Super 16mm films, including:
10 feature films (The Proposition, Sister My Sister) 20 television dramas (Shewolf of London, Murder In Mind) 15 international documentaries (The Horse Whisperer, Gambling for Gorillas) Pop-promos (The Spice Girls, Echo and the Bunnymen ) Commercials (The Labour Party, British Gas).
IT Skills: Media 100, Final Cut Pro, Avid, Adobe Photoshop & After-Effects, Final Draft.
Matt is a co-partner of Jumna Productions. Most recently they produced and directed two 30-minute documentaries for HTV/Carlton.
TECHNICAL EXPERTISE
Matt is well acquainted with all 35mm & Super 16mm film cameras, Steadicam operating, high-speed filming, underwater housings, jibs, mini-Cams, night-vision, DVC, DVC-Pro, DV-Cam, Beta-SP and Digital-Betacam.
STEADICAM
To make the most of this fantastic tool it is essential to work with an experienced operator. In 1989, Matt trained with veteran Steadicam operators Ted Churchill (USA: Ghostbusters) & Mark O’Kane (USA: Dances With Wolves.)
